The formula is S × C = E — starting value × conversion factor = result. Every unit is converted through seconds as the bridge: value × seconds per unit ÷ seconds per target unit. For example, 1 week = 7 × 24 × 60 = 10,080 minutes, and 1 second is 1 ÷ 604,800 of a week.

A common year has 365 days, but the average year is 365.25 days (leap years included). This converter uses the Julian year (365.25 days) — a common engineering convention, also used by OmniCalculator, ModernConvert and UnitConverters.net. Converters using 365 days give slightly different answers for large spans (1 year = 21,600 seconds / 6 hours less).
